R5000 in cash for your recyclable trash
We’re still searching for a hero in the form of the Bellville Business Recycling Champion. Our challenge to Bellville’s business owners to sign up to the recycling trolley project is still running. Sign up before 21 June and you could win R5 000 in cash. All you need to do is to sign up your business to the Bellville Business Recycling Champion Challenge. Recycle as much of your waste as you can between 1 March and 21 June and the business that recycles the most wins the challenge along with a cash prize of R5 000.
Here’s how it works:
In 2019, we launched the Trolley Project, in partnership with the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District and social development NGO MES. The Trolley Project offers informal waste collectors a chance to earn a small income by removing recyclable materials for businesses. This challenge calls on small, medium and large businesses across Bellville to join the Bellville Business Recycling Champion Challenge, to recycle more waste and to contribute to improving the life of the trolley operators.
Once you sign up, you’ll receive a card. Much like a coffee-shop loyalty scheme, you’ll receive a sticker each time your recyclables are collected, according to the size of your business, as follows:
Small businesses (1-5 employees) 1 sticker for every 1 bag of recyclable material
Medium businesses (6-15 employees) 1 sticker for every 2 bags of recyclable material
Large business (16+ employees) 1 sticker for every 3 bags of recyclable material
As well as benefiting our environment, the challenge enables us support and expand the network of trolley operators. Operators earn an income by collecting recyclables from the businesses they are matched with and selling them to one of the scheme’s local buy-back centres. The project won Best Community Recycling Initiative in the 2021 PETCO Awards. Find out more about the project here.
Once your card is full, simply contact us and we’ll issue you with a new one. By the end of the challenge, we’ll tally up which business recycled the most and who wins the grand prize of R5000.
To add excitement and a competitive edge to the initiative, we’re encouraging participating businesses to call on their partners, suppliers and even competitors to take the challenge.
