Public Lighting

Public lighting serves two purposes in cities: first, to light darkened spaces to improve safety and surveillance; and second, to beautify urban spaces. Lighting can be as beautiful as it should be functional.

Combined with the public art programme, the GTP initiated a study into opportunities for public lighting within the Bellville CBD. Under the public arts programme, two striking murals have been illuminated, on Voortrekker Road and at the Bellville public transport interchange.

Further projects to introduce lighting into public spaces such as Tielman Marais Park and Elizabeth Park are included in the scope of consideration.
