Belrail Road is an active traffic route for taxis and buses transporting commuters into and out of Bellville public transport interchange, which is one of the busiest in the country. The back route is also a popular pedestrian thoroughfare for workers going to and from the offices and stores in the eastern parts of Bellville’s CBD.
This project seeks to identify traffic calming measures along the road, to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for passengers and pedestrians.
It is a long-term project requiring extensive stakeholder consultation with affected and interested parties, including community groups, commuter associations and the City of Cape Town’s traffic and urban management departments.
