Promoting community engagement and improving services in the Tygerberg Area: Tygerberg Let’s Talk 2019
Celebrate Tygerberg’s rich multi-cultural diversity during the Tygerberg Heritage Festival, kicking off on 10 September and running for the whole of October.
As part of this year’s annual Tygerberg Heritage Festival, the Tygerberg’s Let’s Talk 2019 took place on Tuesday 10 September from 2pm to 5pm at the Bellville Civic Centre, Bellville.
The event is a platform to network, engage, exchange ideas and have conversations with local service providers, business owners, youth, faith organisations, NGO’s, educational establishments and other stakeholders on creating an inclusive and regenerated Greater Tygerberg Area (inclusive of Bellville, Parow, Elsie River, Durbanville, Khayelitsha, Mfuleni, Delft & other surrounding Cape Flats). Tygerberg Heritage Festival’s overall purpose is to recognise and celebrate Tygerberg’s vibrant cultural diversity, promote racial reconciliation and social cohesion. The Festival aims to ‘build bridges’ between local people, businesses and organisations in the
Tygerberg Areas irrespective of race, sex, faith, sexual orientation, and social / educational / economic and cultural background.
The Festival Partners are Bold Moves, Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID) & Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP).
A panel discussion will be held on issues affecting the Tygerberg area, good practices and conversations on solutions to improving the area. Panelists include Councillor Klein- Smith, Warren Hewitt (CEO of Greater Tygerberg Partnership), Derek Bock (CEO of Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District), Abdikadir Mohammed (Director & Project Officer of Somali Association of Cape Town), Patricia Mudiayi (Founder of Kwesu), representatives & officials from different departments of City of Cape town Council.
Wilma Piek, Social Development Manager for VRCID said: “We have recurring problems of waste dumping & other social issues in the area. We believe through
initiatives like Tygerberg Let’s Talk, we give all stakeholders the opportunity to ‘talk’ and explore jointly feasible and long term solutions”.
