Experience the Bellville CBD as you’ve never seen it before, when the hugely popular Open Streets Day returns to Bellville for the third time on 25 November.

This is your chance to experience the joy of car-free streets, where you can walk, cycle, skate, play, dance, explore and connect with friends, family and neighbours. Partnering with Open Streets on a day when the streets are closed to motorised transport and open to people is part of the GTP’s strategy to build a connected community in Bellville.

The fantastic programme of activities along the route includes a performance by Cape Town’s favourite rapper Youngsta CPT. Other activities offer something for everyone from:

  • Arts and crafts market
  • Five-a-side soccer tournament
  • Street art
  • Music
  • Food
  • Dancing
  • Sports
  • Face-painting, amongst other activities.

The Open Streets concept has already proved highly popular in Bellville since it first came here in 2015, bringing our diverse communities together.

Open Streets is all about sharing streets as public spaces, so people are encouraged leave their cars at home and to walk, skate or cycle to the route on the day. The Open Streets organisers are leading a bike bus on the day from the southern suburbs, and the Bellville public transport interchange is perfectly placed for people who want to use public transport.

Voortrekker Road will be closed to cars between Durban Road and Robert Sobukwe Road, and open to people for the packed programme of activities from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

BELLVILLE MARKET, 25 NOVEMBER 2018

As part of the Open Streets programme, the community’s favourite market, the Bellville Market returns to the Teddington Walkway in Bellville CBD on 25 November from 9.00am to 2.00pm. Launched in July this year, these monthly events have proved highly popular among friends and families from all over Cape Town.

The Bellville Market features all the sights and sounds that make city markets such fun, sociable and inspiring events. You will find market stalls selling arts and crafts, vintage clothing, African outfits, jewellery and pot plants, biltong and biscuits, canvas, candles, mugs, homewares and more — all representing Bellville’s multicultural and creative diversity. It’s the perfect place to start your Christmas gift shopping spree.
