The Street Store is the world’s first rent-free, premises-free, free pop-up clothing store for the homeless. Over 500 Street Stores have already taken place around the world, enabling homeless people to choose their own clothes with dignity. Now The Street Store is coming to Bellville, and we want to encourage everyone in our community to get involved.
Support Bellville’s first street store for the homeless
The Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP) is proud to be hosting Bellville’s first pop-up Street Store. The Store will be open to “shoppers” on Friday, 1 December 2017, from 10am to 2pm.
Our CEO, Warren Hewitt, says: “This is a wonderful project for the GTP to take on. We need to look after our community’s poorest and most vulnerable, and we know that people want to help. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to donate clothing to this cause.”
Aside from helping people dress with dignity, The Street Store provides a great opportunity for Bellville’s homeless community to interact with social workers and benefit from the services of organisations like the Tygerberg Association of Street People (TASP), the Haven Night Shelter and MES.
