The GTP is joining forces with the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and local business incubator, The Startup Hatchery, to surface the best and most innovative business ideas from across the university’s seven faculties. Titled The Pitch Tank Battle of the Faculties Student Innovation Challenge, the challenge is open to all UWC students to bring their best business ideas into the spotlight.
The inter-faculty innovation challenge has been conceived to embed a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the university. The idea behind the Pitch Tank Battle of the Faculties Student Innovation Challenge is to find the most innovative business ideas within the various university faculties and to give the inventors of those ideas a chance to see those ideas become reality.
The competition is open to UWC student teams and individuals who will win cash prizes and business support packages to help them develop their ideas in Bellville into a viable business model. This is just one example of how the GTP is drawing on the innovation and creativity in the area to create a living lab for innovative ideas that could benefit our society and solve some of its most pressing challenges.
The competition launched on 6 May 2019. Fourteen semi-finalists will be selected from different faculties and have a chance to pitch live to a panel of judges at the Pitch Tank Battle of the Faculties event on 25 July.
