Join Deon van Zyl, Chairperson of the Western Cape Property Development Forum; Mercy Brown-Luthango, Senior Researcher at African Centre for Cities; and Justin Coetzee, CEO of GoAscendal, in a facilitated debate that explores answers to these questions. More detail:
The R300 highway currently links the N1 and N2 highways as a busy , heavily congested arterial route used extensively by commuters travelling to places of work and study across the Cape Town metropole. The R300 extension project envisages a tolled Ring Road that connects Muizenberg with Melkbosstrand to ease congestion. The project has raised polarised opinions, with critics arguing that the extension has the potential to divert economic activity from existing urban areas and damage fragile environmental ecosystems; and supporters seeing opportunities for greater economic activity and development as a driver for much-needed growth.
We ask: what is the impact of the project on Bellville future city – a well-established commercial centre, and secondary city to Cape Town?
